BlackRadioIsBack.com Video Game: BCFx (Black College Football - The Xperience:)- The Doug Williams Edition

Good Wednesday Morning to our BlackRadioIsBack.com and FuseBox Radio Broadcast readers & listeners! :)

Besides the fact that I still have a bit of a tomboy side in me in regards to video games, Black College Football Xperience: The Doug Williams Edition captured my attention for a few reasons...

As a daughter, niece, cousin and friend of folks who attended HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) here in the United States, I thought it was interesting and pretty cool that Nerjyzed Entertainment was making a video game representation of the HCBU Football experience.

Some folks may ask why such a game would even need to be made with the plethora of sports games out now or even at all.

As the first African-American owned development studio to receive Gold Certification for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft to make video games (a major technology accomplishment), the owner had a concern about Black American images in video games in general and in her own way, wanted to make a positive impact:
Whether you are a fan of video games or not, chances are your children or young people you know play them. Unfortunately, the prevailing imagery of African-Americans in the majority of video games on the shelves today does not promote positive images nor does it educate.

In fact, the disturbing images of violence and other criminal activities have a lasting impression and sometimes a negative impact on the gamer who’s playing them. As Chairwoman and CEO of Nerjyzed Entertainment, Inc., I am committed to developing games where positive images and experiences of the African-American community prevail.

Together we can show the video game industry that we are worthy of games that teach and communicate positive messages and images reflecting the African-American culture.

- Jacqueline Beauchamp, Chairwoman and CEO, Nerjyzed Entertainment, Inc.
In terms of importance and impact in the mainstream/professional sports world, Black players in football and their original foundation in the HBCU sports community (especially with the NCAA not accepting HBCU teams until the 1970s) can't be denied.

Also for real, the game just looks like it would be fun and pretty cool to play, which is what matters overall to the vast majority of us who play these things in the first place. :)

Check out the video game preview below, if you're around one of these stores that have a demo copy, give it a play and if you like it as a sports fan, support and cop BCFx - The Doug Williams Edition when you can. It's now out for the XBox 360 video game system and at major stores and websites everywhere.

We know at the end of the day, money talks - let people know you want more different types of balanced entertainment by spending that $ on quality!

Today's shaping up to be another nice day of mixtape treats and goodies for the BlackRadioIsBack.com download squad...

We've covered the collabo Black Music supergroup of Idle Warship (consisting of Hip-Hop MC Talib Kweli, Black Rocker/Singer Res and MC/Singer Graph Nobel) before here on the 'site and it's a nice surprise that they've decided to drop this full mixtape of new Soul/Dance/Rock Music joints and remixes in conjunction with Mick Boogie.

Here's a description of the project directly from the group:
Idle Warship welcomes you to our first full length offering, "Party Robot". This started out as a path to musical freedom. When we established Idle Warship, we did it for us.

Now that we are giving you this music, Idle Warship no longer belongs to us, it belongs to the world. We don’t believe in labels for music. Labels make stop you from hearing something before you listen to it.

We appreciate those who have taken this journey with us without judgment and enjoyed the ride.

BlackRadioIsBack.com Music: Chester Gregory - BreakBeat Karaoke, A Throwback Mixtape

Doing a VERY late, late pass post on this Soul Music mixtape here on BlackRadioIsBack.com...

Chester Gregory is a really on point independent singer, songwriter & performer who's represents in the New York City area.

We've rocked various music of his on the FuseBox Radio Broadcast through the years and received this mixtape a few months back of some of his more freestyle music works.

This BreakBeat Karaoke, A Throwback Mixtape has him doing a lot of remixes based off of throwback breakbeats (& their interpretations) from Hip-Hop music classics along with featuring some original songs that feature guest appearances from artists including artists from Farrah Burns, Phase One, Dot Da Genius (producer of the Kid Cudi's "Day N Night") and more.

If you like the BreakBeat Karaoke, A Throwback Mixtape by Chester Gregory, folks might want to cop his official album of original music, In Search of Higher Love, either via his own website, iTunes or Amazon when you get the chance.

Let us know what you think after you cop the free mixtape download as well as checking out Chester Gregory's music videos (both live in action and some official music video treats)...enjoy!

About Me:
My mission for BlackRadioIsBack.com, as the official blog of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast, is to bring back the spirit of Black Radio via the Internet and the World Wide Web.

In the past few years, the term, mission and mentality of "Black Radio" in the United States has been at the very least ignored and that the worst, totally disregarded, disrespected and shunned.

In my mind, Black Radio at its best is & will always be the format that brings to listeners:

1. A balanced combination of diverse & interesting music in multiple formats – after all Black Radio was the format that first exposed Jazz, Funk, Soul, Blues, Rock Music - yes, Rock and Roll has Black American musical foundations - do the history, Gospel and Hip-Hop music to the masses.

2. A quality mix of news, interviews and commentary to the Black American community (and to anyone else interested) - editorial, political, health, social, etc.

3. A mission to truly connect with its listener community on multiple fronts Black Radio, in most of the mainstream airwaves, has been taken over by what's called "urban radio", "contemporary urban radio", etc.

It seems that with this format, what most stations, radio hosts and mixers do is keep things in a very narrow vision of what the Black American cultural experience is supposed to be like and how its represented - basically, watering things down.

For example:

* When you hear the same joint for the 1,000,000th time on the radio and you know the artist has an album release (or multiple releases) out that you can at least TRY to hear more tracks from before a 3 month period OR you always hear the same music artists in constant rotation = NOT quality Black Radio

* When "Old School" music is defined as being from 5 years ago and/or not acknowledging music from the past = NOT quality Black Radio

* When there is only one viewpoint of what Black America and Black Americans represent (either straight 24-7 criminality without consequences or creativity or only the civil rights generation is great with everyone else not under that being subpar) = NOT quality Black Radio

* Putting on the same sound effect and/or screaming over 10 times in a row for a 3 minute song that is not even hot = NOT quality Black Radio

This list can go on for days…

BlackRadioIsBack.com will have music audio & videos from all over the world along with reviews (for both mainstream and independent artists), written and audio interviews with various folks in the community (music artists, authors, businesspeople, activists, etc.), book, magazine and movie reviews and editorials.

BlackRadioIsBack.com will also be a location where others who are promoting the spirit of Black Radio will also be represented and highlighted.

I hope that everyone enjoys the site and gets stimulated by the true Black Radio Experience!

Peace,

Mary Nichols (DJ Fusion)

_______________

INFO & DESCRIPTION ABOUT DJ FUSION & THE FUSEBOX RADIO BROADCAST (UPDATED: January 2009):

Umm, OK....I'm DJ Fusion (real name: Mary Nichols), a short (5 feet tall even), above average looking (I think at least a "B", even if a low one....) African-American female DJ and graduate at Rutgers University (c/o 2001) with a degree in American Studies and a minor in History.

I am a Radio, Club and Mixtape DJ, with my main music focus for my DJ sets ranging from genres of Hip-Hop (Independent & Commerical), Breakbeats, Reggae, Funk, Acid Jazz, Soul, House, Disco, DC GoGo, Electronica, Rock and Classics - Black Music in general.

Since its foundation in 1998 - when I created the show as an undergraduate student at Rutgers University - New Brunswick in New Jersey - the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast has been around to expose the absolute BEST of Hip-Hop & Soul Music from all over the world (and Black Music in general) along with bringing quality interviews, news, and commentary. Along with fellow co-host/DJ/Producer Jon Judah (added on as part of the FuseBox Radio crew in 2004), we try our best to stick to that mission and bring great sounds, vibe and content to the masses.

From it's roots at Rutgers University Radio (WRSU 88.7 FM), the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast is a mixshow that has spread to the following internet radio stations and outlets (as of January 2009):

UrbanNetwork.com's The Mix Internet Radio Station (Urban Network Magazine), ConspiracyUK.com, FONYE Radio, VI Radio, MyBlockRadio.net, OKRP.com, Beyond.FM, Sprint Radio Extra/mSpot (via the WWACN/Worldwide Alpha Communications Network), DurdeeSouth.com, Planet Urban/PlanetUrban.com.au, BlockJams.com, AmalgamDigital.com, Reeweine Radio/ReeWineMusic.com, SouthBound.FM, TheBestJams.com, CrackAudio.com, EG Radio/ExtravaGangsta Radio, Stop Beefin' Stop Eatin' Radio, Ceesiety Radio , Mixshow Blast Radio, Progressive Blend Radio, DeadBeat Radio, FlyTunes.FM/FlyCast, HipHopSoulRadio.com, Digiwaxx Presents: The Blast, Nilo Radio, Trunk Hustlers Online, 907 Jamz, 1.FM Jamz (coming Jan. 1, 2009), The6.FM (coming soon),Blayze University Radio (coming soon), Gutta Muzik (HD) Radio (coming soon), StreetsD.com - Street Mos Magazine Radio (coming soon) and BlackCoffeeChannel.com (coming soon)

The syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast also a broadcast partner with journalist Glen Ford's Black Agenda Report (http://www.BlackAgendaReport.com) and the HBCU (Historically Black College and University) Radio Network's Direct EFX (http://www.myspace.com/directefx101) to bring extra syndicated programming segments of news, entertainment and commentary.

Under the business, FuseBox Media LLC, I also engage freelance article writing for various Internet and paper publications and do various music projects (music production, mixtape hosting & production, etc.).

The official blog of the FuseBox Radio Broadcast was established in October of 2007, BlackRadioIsBack.com (http://www.BlackRadioisBack.com). BlackRadioIsBack.com is a writen extension of the radio show and contains things such as music, book and movie reviews, editorials, world news highlights and more.

The main areas I have done live DJ sets and events at have been in the New Jersey, New York City, Philadelphia & DC Metro areas. Some of the clubs, lounges and stores where the FuseBox Radio Broadcast has represented include SOBS, the National Black Theatre in Harlem, the Bowery Poetry Club, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Barnard College @ Columbia University, Rutgers University, Club Platinum, Rebar Lounge, D'Palace, African Globe Studios, Flava Lounge, Hunter College, NY Brands Clothing Store, Laila Lounge, Halcyon, 169 Bar, The Court Tavern, the C-Note, DJ Hut and the Remote Lounge, amongst others.

My history also includes having been the President & Co-Founder of the Rutgers University Student Community of Hip-Hop (aka RUSCH, the 1st Hip-Hop organization @ Rutgers University) from August 2000 - August 2002.
